I'm not a big fan of ice cream, but my favorite flavor, by far, is butter pecan. Sure, I like to indulge in other, more complicated varieties from time to time. But, butter pecan is my tried and true favorite.

One of my favorite things about New York City is that there is no shortage of amazing bakeries. After we moved here, I told myself that I would visit as many as possible. That's a tall order. But, I do it in the name of all the baked goods in the city. How unselfish, right? In the West Village, there's an incredibly quaint little spot called Milk & Cookies. As you might guess, this place is known for its cookies. Quinn and I stopped by last weekend, and we both had a hard time choosing our treats. Ultimately, there were cookies. And maybe a couple of other things.

I was lured in by the added appeal of chocolate and a simple recipe. And Quinn's enthusiasm about having some homemade baked goods, which have been few and far between of late.

I especially need a few simple ones in my repertoire during the even-busier-than-normal holiday season. While my preference is to make cakes from scratch, I am not opposed to augmenting a cake mix. This cake starts with both a boxed cake mix and boxed pudding mix. It really is so quick and easy to put together. I had it mixed and in the oven within minutes.

Last time we visited New York, we happened upon Magnolia Bakery. Unfortunately, we opted not to eat of those amazing sweet treats because we were about an hour away from our dinner reservations. I was not strong enough, however, to walk by without even going inside. It was seriously one of the best smelling places I've ever experienced. I do intend to partake of the famous baked goods from Magnolia one of these days. In the meantime, I continue to enjoy baking from The Magnolia Bakery Cookbook. This book has so many great-looking recipes that it's truly difficult to pick one.
