Growing up in Mississippi, I learned early and well that home-baked food is an important part of our lives and culture. Whenever I made the short trip to my grandmother’s home, she always had something wonderful and warm from the oven waiting. Memories of my grandmother’s baking are always an inspiration for me when I preheat my ovens and set out butter to soften.
I live and bake in northeast Mississippi with my husband Quinn. You can see most of my baking (and sometimes breaking) exploits on these pages. Most of the baking is done in my kitchen at home, although I enjoy the chance to bake with friends when we travel. The photography is mostly done in or near my kitchen with natural lighting.
My very handy husband Quinn helps out with the pictures, admin, and tasting. He even contributes to the site sometimes.
If you have a question or comment, you can contact me at bakeorbreak@gmail.com. I am on Facebook, so please come be my friend! BoB has its own page, too, where you can become a fan. I am also on Twitter if you’d like to follow me there.
Elsewhere, Quinn and I write Eating Onions Together, a food and cooking blog. I also keep a log of my favorite food blogger’s creations at Other Kitchens.

The photos on your site are mouthwateringly edible and I was wondering about the camera that is used. Thanks for sharing your love of baking.

Thanks for your kind words, Joe! To answer your question, our Nikon D50 was just recently replaced with a Nikon D200. At the same time, we also procured a 60mm macro lens, which is (excuse the lame language) really super awesome.

Hi Jennifer - I just discovered your blog this week and have already made two items (holiday date nut balls and chocolate peanut butter cookies — both are delicious!). I’m hoping to make the kahlua date nut bread tonight!!
Quick technical question, though — any idea why I can’t scroll down deeper within your pages? I’m finding that I can only view the first 3 or 4 comments on a page, but then the site won’t scroll any further — sometimes it even cuts off mid-comment. Maybe it is just me, but I thought I would check (I’m on IE, btw).
Thanks again! Looking forward to more baking goodness.
-Katie

Hi, Katie! I’m glad you found me, and I’m especially glad that you’ve found recipes you like here. Apparently, the problem you’re having is an IE one, and we (meaning Quinn) are trying to fix it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

I really love your blog and would love to try out your recipes. But we don’t use cups in Finland so do you know if your cups are 8 U.S. fl. Oz.? Then I’d know much they are in our scale. It would help alot. Thanks!

Hi, Polly! That is the correct conversion. There are some other useful conversions at Chocolate & Zucchini and Smitten Kitchen.

I finally took the opportunity to read your entire blog, since I love to follow your recipes with your wonderful photos. Coincidentally we are both pharmacists . I definitely think there is a connection between pharmacy and baking/cooking. I have taken numerous classes over the years and inevitably there are pharmacists in the class. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, bakergirl! It’s good to meet a fellow pharmacist/baker.

I somehow stumbled onto your blog while searching for mini cheese cake tin. Such delicous looking photos!!! I recently left my job to become a stay-at-home mom and I can’t wait to start baking again.

Great website for chocolate, Jennifer. Bitsy led me here - can’t wait to try something dark and gooey. Thanks.

Jennifer, I have to stay away from this blog when I am trying to cut back on sugar, because no matter how badly I want to look great in a bathing suit, your incredible photos just compel me to rush to the store and then make whatever you’ve posted. Every time I am having a party, I look to this blog for dessert ideas, and they are always - ALWAYS - fantastic. What a great blog!

Maegan, you are so sweet! It’s so nice to hear that you enjoy BoB. I feel like getting up and baking now.
