When I first heard about World Nutella Day, I knew that my love of that wonderful chocolate-hazelnut spread required me to participate. That decision was the easy part. Knowing what to contribute was the hard part. Then, inspiration hit me as I drove home last night. In that moment, these cookies were born.
The basis of these cookies is a recipe that probably everyone reading this has made at some time. Taking that famous no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookie recipe and changing it up a bit seemed so obvious that I couldn’t believe I’d never thought of it. The old recipe is a combination of chocolate, peanut butter, and oats. So, why not use Nutella instead of peanut butter? Then, even better, use Frangelico instead of vanilla extract.
The result? In all humility and seriousness, these are awesome. Be warned: they are very chocolate-y. They are not for the faint of chocolate. Rich doesn’t even begin to describe them. I don’t think I can ever make these the old-fashioned way again. These are definitely the new and improved version. Make them, and I think you’ll agree. If not, then check out the other folks who love Nutella and see what they have to offer. And, if you’re a stranger to Nutella, go out and buy some today. You can thank me later.

Those remind me of when I was a kid! We call it school fudge around here… YUM. Though I’ve never even had Nutella. I guess I need to change that.

That’s a great idea! I’ve made those no-bake cookies plenty of times but it has never once occured to me to use nutella instead of peanutbutter. I bet they were delicious!

I had nutella in my pantry and thought I would give them a try. If you love chocolate these are certainly something you should try. I have them set aside for now waiting to devour them.
enjoy.

I found your blog through Flickr, and I must say everything here looks delicious! I also wanted to comment on these no bake cookies– I used to make a variation of them with my mother every holiday season as a child, but haven’t made them in years. Thanks for bringing back the memories– perhaps this year I’ll try your version!

Thanks for this idea! My daughter has peanut allergies and we’ve avoided all peanut butter and thus yummy cookies at our house (until I about died this year ready to make them!!) The Nutella version was awesome!!! Perfect for us

I’ve made the peanut butter/chocolate version of these since about the time I started walking. When I saw this recipe on your site, I started scouring import stores (I live in China) for Nutella. The Nutella was successfully procured, but no Frangelico.
Even with vanilla in place of the Frangelico, these were still really awesome…though I’m sure the Frangelico brings out the hazelnut flavour of the Nutella a bit.
Served to some friends and got rave reviews. Thanks for the idea!

Jessica, I’m glad you liked them! You might try looking for some hazelnut flavoring instead of Frangelico. Although, I’m sure the vanilla worked well, too.

Be careful if you have kids with peanut allergies - Nutella is made with PEANUT OIL.
