I've told you before about my grandmother's green metal recipe box. It's filled with handwritten and clipped recipes for amazing desserts. Some are very familiar, and some not at all. I found not one but three recipes for strawberry pie in there recently, yet I have no memory of her making even one. Still, I felt compelled to try a version of my own. I took some things I liked about each recipe, threw in some of my own ideas, and came up with this amazingly delicious pie.

I must confess that I have a weakness for miniature desserts. There's just something about tiny tarts and cupcakes and such that make me so very happy. Long before I'd even considered starting this blog, I used to make this pie for the holidays when I wanted a break from traditional pecan pie. While at its heart, this is more traditional than not, this pie has a couple of interesting things going for it. First of all, it has a buttery, cream cheese-y crust. Secondly, for those of you who love that gooey filling of pecan pies, there's more of it than usual in this beauty.

One of my most-baked recipes is Pecan Tassies. When I posted that recipe years ago, I had discovered that the word "tassie" was not that familiar to most people. Thus, the name change. But, to me, they have always been and always will be tassies. While I'm still likely to whip up a batch of those old favorites some time during the holidays, I also wanted to do something just a tad different. Enter chocolate.

If you've been following the BoB happenings for a while, you may remember that I made a Pecan Pie Cheesecake a few years ago. It was, in a word, glorious. I love everything about it. If that dessert was cheesecake with a bit of pecan pie, then this one is pecan pie with a bit of cheesecake. That little layer of cheesecake adds a bit of unexpected creamy sweetness to traditional pecan pie.

I've been making a family recipe for pecan pie for many years. It's just your straightforward, traditional pecan pie. And that's what I like about it. This year, I found myself wanting something a little different. So, I decided to take the idea of that pie and change it up a bit. A little brown sugar, a variety of nuts, and there you go!
