I realize the term "leftover Halloween candy" may be confusing to some. Strangely enough, there are people who have enough restraint not to shut down the candy-giving early and polish off the candy bowl in private. If you're one of the few with that kind of will power, then you can put it to a little different use by baking it into these blondies.

I think it both a good and bad sign that as I began poring over my shiny new copy of Baked Elements, I became thoroughly enamored with the very first recipe. Good, in that I knew that the Baked guys had come through yet again with their latest book. Bad, in that, at this rate, I would likely have a hard time narrowing down what to bake first.

Recently, I was offered a sampling of the new cake mixes from Anne Byrn, better known as the Cake Mix Doctor. The timing was really perfect as we were getting ready to move, and I was looking for some simple recipes to keep BoB going before, during, and after the move. Cake mixes are one of my favorite shortcut ingredients. As much as I like to bake from scratch, some of my favorite cakes are made from a mix (hello, Rum Cake!).

One of my favorite things about New York City is that there is no shortage of amazing bakeries. After we moved here, I told myself that I would visit as many as possible. That's a tall order. But, I do it in the name of all the baked goods in the city. How unselfish, right? In the West Village, there's an incredibly quaint little spot called Milk & Cookies. As you might guess, this place is known for its cookies. Quinn and I stopped by last weekend, and we both had a hard time choosing our treats. Ultimately, there were cookies. And maybe a couple of other things.
