Who’s ready for fall? I know you can’t see me, but I’m waving my hand frantically. There’s definitely that unmistakable feeling of fall in the air in New York City. I really couldn’t be happier about that.
Few things say “fall baking” to me more than the combination of apples and cinnamon. Just the smell alone is enough to make me happy. With this recipe, apple-cinnamon goodness gets wrapped inside a tender, flaky crust. You need these in your life. Really.

In case you were wondering, I’m still just as much of a fan of chocolate and peanut butter as I’ve ever been. I hope at least most of you share that sentiment because you’re likely to see that combo on this blog for years to come.
We start with dark chocolate cookies. These are pretty delicious on their own. I love the addition of roasted peanuts to the cookies. I don’t think I bake enough with peanuts. Sure, there are plenty of recipes here with pecans or hazelnuts or almonds. But, peanuts just don’t show up nearly enough.

My birthday was last week, and in keeping with tradition, Quinn baked me a cake. I feel a little bad because the recipe I picked involved a lot of steps including making caramel, which is usually a dicey proposition. I offered him an out, but he decided to dive in and make my initial cake choice.

I’m a big believer in simple recipes. If I were to guess, I’d say that the majority of you are believers, too. Dessert doesn’t have to be complicated to be good. Who’s with me?
I made this cake with a couple of my favorite ingredients, chocolate and pecans. The cake itself is packed with brown sugar and a touch of cinnamon for a little something extra.
