These are very similar to Nanaimo bars, found in Bristish Columbia/Canada. This recipe originaly appeared in the original Betty Crocker “Cooky Book” published in the 1960′s, and still available in a reprint. The alternative title is “Fudge Meltaways”. Biggest recipe differences are the use of one egg uncooked in the graham cracker crust for binding, and the semi-sweet or insweetened chocolate is spread over the vanilla butter cream, rather than drizzled. These are excellent cookies, and a very fond memory of my childhood!
